Senior Care in Palm Beach Gardens FL
One of the most common sources of stress for family caregivers is time, or the lack thereof. Sometimes it’s just about how you use your time that can make the biggest difference.
Plan Ahead as Much as Possible
When you’re flying by the seat of your pants, it never seems as if you have enough time in your day or your week to get everything done. Do the best that you can to plan ahead, even if it seems that you can’t really get plans nailed down far in advance. If the best that you can do is to spend five minutes the night before mapping out what you hope to accomplish the next day, that can make a big difference in how your day goes. Don’t worry about getting your plan perfect. What you’re doing is actively thinking about what you want to get done.
Schedule Time for Yourself First
As you get better at planning, you’ll want to start putting in time for yourself before you schedule everything else. This does two things. First, you’ll actually have time for yourself on your plan. Second, you won’t run into the problem that most happens, which is that you end up with no time for yourself at all. Even if you need to make sure that senior care providers are available during those times for your loved one, time for yourself helps to keep you healthy physically and emotionally.
Prioritize Your Tasks
Make a list of all of your daily or weekly tasks and prioritize them. Tasks that involve your elderly loved one likely fall higher on the priority list than say, dusting. This is important because you can start scheduling your tasks and your day by priority. If you don’t have the time to perform certain tasks yourself, such as laundry or cleaning, delegate them to someone else in the family.
Have Someone Fill in for You
You probably feel strongly about being there for your loved one in every situation, but there are going to be times when you have to be elsewhere. Make sure that other family members or experienced senior care providers are able to fill in for you whenever possible. On the other hand, you may need to have people fill in for you at work or at home when your loved one’s needs are a higher priority.
We all have the same amount of time in each day, but it can be how we schedule it that makes the biggest difference.
